NYC Summer Activities

Now that July is here and we can officially declare summer in New York City, here is a list of Summer activities that are great for locals, families, tourists and even solo explorers. 

NYC SUMMER ACTIVITIES:

  • OUTDOOR MOVIE SCREENINGS: There’s nothing like watching a movie outdoors with your friends or significant other. This can be a date night activity or a friend’s gathering. Mark your calendar and make sure you attend at least one of these screenings before summer ends. The full schedule can be found here.
  • SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK:  Shakespeare in the Park is a classic and is a beloved summer tradition. It occurs every year and this is a great cultural experience. You don’t have to be a theater lover to attend and if you’re not a theater fan, why not do something out of the ordinary. More details about this event can be found here.
  • BOATING IN CENTRAL PARK: You can easily spend a whole day at Central Park. A lot of people tend to have picnics here, play sports, work out, and the list goes on and on. However, a great summer activity is to go boating. Consider renting a paddleboat, rowboat or kayak during sunset, but know that it does get busy so be prepared to wait. The experience however will be worth it! 
  • TAKE A TRIP TO GOVERNOR’S ISLAND: If you want a fun getaway, you should visit Governor’s Island for a mini escape from the city. It is easily accessible as you just need to take the ferry which sets sail every 20 minutes.  There are tons of activities to do such as eat and drink, attend exhibits, visit attractions, bike, etc. 
  • VISIT CONEY ISLAND: Coney Island is such an iconic summer NYC attraction.You can lay out on the beach, stroll along the boardwalk and even visit Luna Park. This is a great place for families because kids are able to enjoy rides and games or for adults to tap into their inner child!
  • EAT YOUR HEART OUT AT SMORGASBURG: If you’re a foodie, then you have to visit Smorgasburg! There are tons of vendors offering food, while will make your stomachs full and and hearts happy.
  • ATTEND A ROOFTOP BAR: This is something you can obviously do anytime of the year but it’s special when it’s during the summer because nothing beats enjoying the city sunsets with great company and a drink! Some great rooftops bars include Dear Irving, Westlight, Mr.Purple, Park Royalton and Magic Rooftop.
  • EXPLORE HIGH LINE/ HUDSON YARDS: The High Line is a great place to hang out during the summer.  For those that don’t know, the High Line used to be a rail track and it has now been transformed to a park that stretches from Chelsea to Hudson Yards. Spend a day combining both attractions and why you’re at it, definitely visit The Edge
